I bought a holster for my cellphone.
Yes, I did. I’m that much of a dork. It’s pretty neat, though – it holds the phone securely, I can swivel it and lock it into a number of positions from vertical to horizontal (it swivels 360 degrees!). It has a clip designed to go on a belt and fits my belt quite nicely.
It’s not perfect, mind you. For one thing, it sticks out a bit farther than I’d really like. However, it eliminates the dilemma I faced on a daily basis, trying to decide where to carry my phone. My back pocket was a poor selection, especially at work, because although it let me set the phone to vibrate it put pressure on the antenna. However, if I put it in my bag, I’d have to turn the ringer up to make sure I could hear it, and it would distract my students at the learning center. (I’m reluctant to turn it off because I have so many jobs that I’m in constant danger of getting a semi-important call about any one of them.)
I’ve already been asked why I don’t just use a purse – the answer to that is, I haven’t found a purse yet that fit all my numerous space/appearance/materials requirements, and it still presents the whole ringer-distraction problem at the learning center.
So I’m sticking with my holster for the time being. When I finally land the One True Job I probably won’t need the holster (since I won’t have to worry about distracting kids from their schoolwork at the One True Job). But until then, it seemed a decent investment of $20.
