This week’s Wednesday Whatevers.
- Should the media be responsible for how they affect children?
That’s a tricky one. I do not believe in censorship, period. However, I also believe in responsibility. I believe parents are responsible for what their kids watch. I believe artists have the responsibility not to act like idiots – I think shock value is not sufficient reason to subject an audience to unpleasantness. Have a point, dammit. but I don’t believe censorship is right. I think media outlets should keep kids in mind when designing their airtime schedules. I think the television news should get its act together – studies have shown that watching the news on TV rather than online or in the newspaper will make you paranoid and distort your view of the dangers in your own neighborhood. But I don’t think that the parents of kids who go bad should be able to sue media outlets, no. - What is your strongest power surge?
Depends on what the question means. The thing that gets me going the most, you mean? Either caffeine or knowing that people whose opinion I respect believe in me. - What supernatural power would you want the most?
Hm… this is a tricky one. My first thoughts are: telekinesis, teleportation, immortality, the ability to fly… but if I had to pick one, I’d have a hard time choosing. I mean, dood, immortality would rock, but only if the people I loved were immortal too. Teleportation would be handy (never be late for work again!) but I’d miss out on the quiet time and sightseeing of driving. Flying would be neat but possibly wet or dangerous. I guess I’d go with telekinesis. I’m inherently lazy, and it would be great to be able to pick things up without standing up. :)
