WOO! 25k Reached! Been too busy to post, but not too busy to write the last few days. Go me. Excerpt below.
Marci walked through the door and closed it, not bothering to do so quietly. “Joe? What are you doing still in bed? It’s the middle of the afternoon!” Strictly speaking, that wasn’t true. It was barely two pm. But for Marci, that was really late.
“We didn’t get back until really late. The guys had some crazy idea to drive to Las Vegas, and then they wanted to take this really long route back. I don’t think we got in until after five in the morning.”
Marci looked vaguely horrified. “What on earth were you doing in Las Vegas?”
“Um… nothing much? They wanted to play some blackjack.” He hoped he sounded convincing.
“Hmph.” Marci pushed his jeans out of the way and sat down on his chair. As she did so, the contents of his pockets abruptly pattered out onto the floor… including the receipt for Cookie’s time. As Marci bent over to retrieve everything, Joe’s mind whirled. What would he do if she saw the receipt and asked about it? Oh, man, he was in a lot of trouble.
Marci picked up the receipt. Marci looked at it. “What’s this?” she asked, “COOKIE_NM? Two hundred and fifty dollars! My god, Joe, you don’t have that kind of money!”
“I know!” he said, wheels spinning. “It was, um, see, we had dinner at a Nieman Marcus cafe in Vegas and the cookies that they had were really great, so I thought I’d get the recipe, you know, for you cos you and your friends do bake sales and stuff. They said it would be two fifty, and I thought they meant two dollars and fifty cents, but they didn’t, and they wouldn’t reverse the charges. It was really messed up.” That sounded like a pretty good story, he figured. he just hoped Marci believed him.
