Only a little late. This week’s Monday Mission.
- When was the last time you helped out a friend in need? What was going on that made you want to help?
Hm… well, Mom went out of town for five days and I looked after the horses for her. Before that, my best bud went out of town for a couple weeks and I watered her plants every couple of days. - Are you a “pet” person? Do you like to keep pets or would you rather not bother with them? Why?
I love my pets. I’m especially a cat person. - In a dating or married relationship, is it possible to change someone to be more like you want them to be? Have you tried to or had someone try to change you? How did it turn out?
Ooh, this is a thorny one. I don’t really think the kind of change most people want can be gotten by actively trying to change someone. People have to want to change, as the old saying goes. That said, however, I do think it’s possible to help someone see why they might want to change and to support their efforts to change. Not necessarily easy, but possible.
I haven’t been in a romantic relationship where someone tried to change me. My mom tries to change me all the time. :) - In your opinion, why is it that some married people have affairs? Is it ever justified?
Hm… I’m going with the answer Olympia Dukkakis’ character in “Moonstruck” settles on: “because they fear death.” I think people cheat because they’re afraid they’re trapped or because they want to be lost in that excitement and romance again, to feel young and pretend that time isn’t passing. This is mostly guesswork, since I’ve never really talked with anybody who’s actually had an affair about why they did it. - Do you tend to make the same mistakes over and over? Got any examples?
Yes and no. I’m terrible at keeping up with the little things that have to be done every day, does that count as a mistake? Other than that, not really. - What do you find distracts you the most when you are trying to concentrate?
My own mind. Random thoughts that will spring up out of nowhere. I’ve taken to carrying a notepad so I can write them down and get back to work. :) - What do you know “now,” that you wish you knew “then?”
Hm… that someone wonderful was going to come along and fall in love with me. If I’d known my romantic situation wasn’t going to go on being horrible forever, I think I’d have been a lot happier during college and grad school. - BONUS: What’s the matter with your life?
Hm… not a whole lot, really. I don’t have my career set up the way I want it yet, but I’m working on that. I live at home because I can’t afford not to, but I’m working on that too. I’ve got great friends and a fantastic boyfriend and a decent relationship with my parents.
