Insert Whiny Musing Here

I really wish I had the luxury of quitting the jobs I hate.

My penpal in England said in his last letter that he’s worried about me – that I”m working too hard and going to burn myself out. It’s a legitimate worry – my schedule currently looks something like this:

  • Monday: Exercise the horses if I don’t have to sub.
    Finish my weekly review.
Teach at Success! Learning Center from 3:00-6:00.
    Tutor Students A and B 6:30-8.
Lord of the Rings TCG league until 11pm.
  • Tuesday: Work on freelance projects if I don’t get called in to sub.
Teach at Success! Learning Center from 3:00-6:00.
Attend a screening (usually at 7:30) or, if there is no screening, go to Aikido class (7-8).
  • Wednesday: Work on freelance projects if I don’t get called in to sub.
Teach at Success! Learning Center from 3:00-6:00.
    Tutor Students A, B, and C between 6:30 and 9:00.
Hang out with the bf until I collapse from exhaustion.
  • Thursday: Work on freelance projects if I don’t get called in to sub.
Teach at Success! Learning Center from 3:00-6:00.
Take down the Learning Center, then run to Aikido class (7-8:30)
  • Friday:Work on freelance projects if I don’t get called in to sub.
    Tutor student D 3:30-5:30.
Go out to movie with bf if there was no screening this week.
    Collapse at bf’s house.

I can see why my penpal is worried. Ideally, I sub 3 days a week. That means I’m working 18 hours as a sub, 12 hours at Success! Learning Center , 6 hours of private tutoring, between 3 and 5 hours as a movie reviewer (depends on how hard the review is to write, and how long the movie is), and then filling in the rest of the time with whatever freelance web projects I have. That’s what, 40 paid hours a week, not counting freelance work? Not to mention the travel time between jobs and the weeks where I sub more than 3 days.
No wonder I’m so tired all the time.
Unfortunately, I can’t really afford to cut back – my student loan payments are so goddamn high that I’m working that many hours (and at a high hourly rate, too – I don’t work for less than $20/hr these days except for the reviews, which pay a flat rate) and still can’t afford to move out.
On the other hand, I can afford all my loan payments, my car payments, a cell phone (necessary when one has this many jobs), and I don’t work on weekends except for my reviewing. So that’s good.
But still.
I get so envious when I hear people talking about how they’re going to quit a job because they hate it, or saying things like “eh, what’s the worst they can do? Fire me?”
I don’t have enough saved up to hold me over losing even ONE of my five jobs.
WHINE WHINE WHINE WHINE!!! I DEMAND SYMPATHY!!!
Ahem.
Sorry.
Anyway: the main purpose of this ‘musing’ is to illustrate several things:

  1. Why I’m so tired all the time.
  2. Why I blog so irregularly.
  3. Why I whine so much about wanting a cool full-time job.
  4. Why my readers should band together and find me a full-time job as a movie reviewer! :)
