Last night was FAR more entertaining than it needed to be.
Short version:
- Antwon came over.
- We smelled something burning.
- We heard sirens.
- We went outside.
- His dad’s van was on fire.
- The firefighters arrived and put it out.
- The firefighters told us it looks like an electrical thing.
- Everything from inside the van was damp but okay.
- The fire didn’t spread.
- Everyone and everything but the van is all right.
We were too rattled last night to take pix, but it was amazing. We did get photos this morning, though.
Here’s the van from across the street. Notice the sharp dividing line between burned and not burned areas.
A closer view. | |
The mirror got totally scorched.
This is the other side. Notice how much less damaged the front quarter panel is. Can tell which side had WAY more intense fire going on. Notice also the weird stuff on top of the tire – I think that’s something from the engine compartment that melted.
A freaky-as-hell front view.
Geez, look at all that. | |
The left headlight. Dig the puddle of melted plastic! I think the headlight cover just melted away in the heat.
The right headlight fared a LOT worse.
Check out what used to be the battery! This is looking down into the right side of the engine compartment.
The inside fared pretty darn well, even though we could see the glowing red of the fire through the driver’s side foot area when they were putting the fire out. I think maybe the glow was the firewall retaining heat?
At least the plants are okay. The tree above had some smoke damage but didn’t catch fire. Hooray. |
One doesn’t want to gloat or appear gleeful, but dayumm, isn’t that cool looking? It would, of course, be even cooler if it weren’t Twon’s Dad’s van. *sigh* Thank goodness for insurance. Here’s hoping the insurance company won’t be dicks about it.
