I get asked a lot if I’m excited for Rock Band 3, and I was drafting a long explanation of why my feelings are mixed when I realized I can summarize it very easily:
If I wanted to play piano or guitar, I would.
I do not want to. That is why I play Rock Band.
The multiple vocals? Nifty. Improved graphics and stuff? Sweet. Backward compatibility with on-disc songs and DLC? Badass!
New instruments? Pro mode? Fuck that shit.
I’m glad other people are psyched about that stuff. I am not. If anything, I’m disappointed my casual-fun-times-rock-experience is being intermingled with actual instruments. Actual instruments are work. I know, I used to play them.
