Oh, cool! So my aunt

Oh, cool!
So my aunt reminded me that I didn’t mention seeing Viggo’s art exhibit while in LA. She and my uncle and I went, and it was amazing. He had a bunch of paintings and photos on display at the Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica. The exhibit is called Signlanguage and I spent most of it saying, “Oh, cool!”
Mortensen’s art is in some ways very modern, but I liked it a lot anyway. I tend not to be a modern art fan, but he has a wonderful sense of color and balance, and creates these canvasses that make you look more closely. He hides things in them – words, photographs, patterns.
His photography, mostly black and white, is full of contrasts, but without the “look, I’m being ah-tistic, dahling” vibe most people’s work gives. I adored his shots from the Lord of the Rings years, particularly a fantastic one of Dominic Monaghan in the snow. Sadly, that one is not in the catalog, which my aunt and I split. *sigh*
I’m considering writing to him to ask if he has prints available or something. It’s a great shot.
