So Rachelro asked me a question in line with the last Friday Five…
Here’s a question: You’ve found the perfect place – affordable, great
location, a block from your favorite bookstore/taco place/man,
more than ample water pressure, a place that’s new *and* has
character. BUT the lease starts 2 weeks after your old one ends and
there are no – absolutely none – storage facilities / friends’ places /
u-haul trucks in which you can stash your stuff, would you:
a) cry and find a different, but clearly and depressingly inadequate
home?
b) set up house in the Target parking lot, guard your gear and hope
it doesn’t rain?
c) sell the sum of your life’s posessions for 1/10 the value and go to
Fiji for the interval, coming back impoverished, but tanned?
Well, this is kind of a hokey hypothetical, since I have oodles of friends in the area. Seriously. I mean, half my internet friends live within a one or two hour drive of here. And there’s always U-Haul. And, come to that, I already have a storage unit that’s not all that full
That aside, I’d probably go with the Target option. I am way too attached to my gear for (c) and if it’s really that great a place, I don’t think I could bear to go with (a).
