Friday Five

This week’s Friday Five.

1. What was the first band you saw in concert?
Hm… hard to say. I think it was The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, a fantastic Irish Folk group. I can remember sitting on my Dad’s lap and bouncing up and down, clapping in time to one of my favorite songs, and one of the Clancys smiled at me. At me! We were in like the second row, and I must’ve been about six, and therefore cuter than a whole tin of buttons.

2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?
The Red Elvises. I’m also a big fan of The Phenomenauts, Primus, and … well, okay, a hell of a lot of semi-obscure bands. Makes it really ahrd to play “Name that song” with me, let me tell you. I don’t really listen to much in the way of current music. When I listen to the radio, I listen to The Bone – classic rock all the way. It’s the only station I can listen to for more than five minutes in a row.

3. What’s your favorite song?
Just one?! What? You must be joking. Here’s a list in no particular order of songs I love.

  • Love Pipe, Red Elvises
  • Closer, NIN
  • Phenomenator, the Phenomenauts
  • Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool, Primus
  • Tommy the Cat, Primus
  • Candyman, Aqua
  • Cows with Guns, Dana Lyons
  • Lords of the Rhymes, self-titled.

4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
I’d love to be hella hella good at electric guitar.

5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
Wow, that’s a hard one. Franz Liszt was the first music star, and he totally ruled. I wouldn’t mind meeting Elvis, of course, and it would be amazing to hang with Les Claypool. I’m already on a first-name basis with the Red Elvises, and I have talked to the Phenomenauts a couple times, so it’s all good on that count.
