This film appeared as a work-in-progress at last year’s Cinequest, and took the festival by storm. The final version is here this year, with all new effects, and it’s a blast. Eugene works for a party clown company, going to kids’ birthday parties dressed as a comic book super hero. He’s been in unrequited love with Emily for ages, and always assumed his job was a liability — but when he finds out she thinks working kids’ parties is cute, things start looking up. Until, that is, Eugene’s long-time rival for her affections dons his own cape and starts trying to sabotage Eugene’s efforts to win Emily’s love. This is a sweet, engaging film sure to please anyone who knows the difference between Silver Age comic book characters and their modern counterparts.
