When Babou is specifically told she’s not invited to her daughter’s wedding because the younger woman is embarrassed by her Bohemian ways, she becomes determined to grow up — to find and hold down a real job. Babou is someone it’s almost impossible not to like, but it’s easy to see why she has trouble in her various friendships and relationships. Her transformation into timeshare saleswoman in a tourist town is engaging and not a little suspenseful: can she leave her open-hearted but rather self-centered ways behind? Do we really want her to? This touching French comedy-drama is sweet and well worth seeing.
