Hollywood is becoming fairly proficient at putting out mildly amusing romantic comedies on a regular basis. “Laws of Attraction” is definitely one of them. It doesn’t stand out from the crowd, but if you’re looking for an hour and a half of entertainment and prefer romantic comedies to action flicks, you could do a lot worse.
Our heroine, Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore), is one of the best divorce lawyers in New York. She is also single and not interested in dating, to the despair of her gorgeous socialite mother, Sara (Frances Fisher). As far as Audrey is concerned, the rumpled charm of fellow divorce attorney Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan, with his charm dial turned all the way up) changes none of that. But that’s before they tumble into bed after a night of heavy drinking. Both try to pass it off the next day as a ploy to win their sides of the case they’re both fighting, but it’s obvious to everyone but Audrey that there’s more to it.
After a series of increasingly heated courtroom battles on various cases, Daniel steals a potential client of Audrey’s, influential designer Serena (Parker Posy).
